Our Philosophy
Ponsy Kids aims to provide a secure, supportive, stimulating, friendly and welcoming environment for preschool aged children. A whanau atmosphere is important to us, our activities are catered for to meet the individual needs of each child. Safety of the children at the centre is paramount.

We believe that early childhood is a time when children are continuously learning about who they are and how they can engage with their world. We plan an environment where children are respected as unique individuals and where their learning will grow through their own efforts and interests with the support of their family, whanau and the wider community. We value an inclusive early childhood environment where children are encouraged to grow and develop their own abilities; one in which they are acknowledged and will feel physically and emotionally safe. We hope that when a child leaves our pre-school, we have contributed to making that little person’s early childhood experience, a positive and fulfilling one.

Background
Ponsy Kids opened in 1998, and is operated by the Ponsonby Community Centre. It was developed with the assistance of Auckland City Council, out of a growing need for part-time pre-school places in the Ponsonby area.

PLEASE NOTE: A minimum booking of two sessions applies, providing better continuity both for your child and the centre.

Programme
We provide an environment in which facilities, equipment and resources enable staff to encourage children to take advantage of opportunities to enjoy, learn and extend themselves and their potential.

We know that experiences in pre-school have a greater potential to enhance the personal success and happiness of individuals than at any other time of their life, and that in the absence of the primary caregiver, the best care and educational interests of the child will be catered for at the Centre. There are planned activities and opportunities for play, learning and interaction, with competent, caring staff and within a group of children.
