PONSY KIDS PRE SCHOOL

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our Tamariki are the centre of everything we do.  Ponsy Kids is a child’s home away from home where they are nurtured, respected and valued as individuals with a strong sense of belonging.
We believe to truly know a child you need to know the family. Our families are an integral part of our teaching and learning environment where they know they have a place and are respected and valued.

Ponsy Kids is a not-for profit community based centre and we believe that the best outcomes for children occur when teachers are qualified with high teacher child ratios. This allows teachers to build stronger relationships with children, provide high quality interactions and deepen their learning.

We believe the environment acts as a third teacher. We aim to create an inviting space that children are excited to interact with as it reflects their interests and shows that we value these.

We support our children in the next step of their learning journey as they transition to school.
Our close links with local schools and knowledge of our community supports children and families into this new learning environment.

Children will leave Ponsy Kids affirmed in their sense of identity. They are ready to take on new challenges as capable, confident, life-long learners – something that we are proud to be a part of.

BACKGROUND

Ponsy Kids opened in 1998, and is operated by the Ponsonby Community Centre. It was developed with the assistance of Auckland Council, out of a growing need for part-time pre-school places in the Ponsonby area.

Ponsy Kids Community Preschool is a not for profit preschool that is licensed for 41 children aged 2yrs-4yrs.  We have high quality teacher/child ratios with 6 qualified teachers and a teacher aide providing a nurturing and educational learning environment for our children. We are proud to have long term and dedicated teachers. Building strong relationships with our families and the community is very important to us. Being community based and non for profit means the aspirations and needs of the families in our community come first. Our teaching philosophy is based on extending children’s learning through their individual and group interests.

Ponsy Kids offers 20 Hours ECE for 3/4 year old children, contact our Head Teacher Julie Ferguson on (09) 376 0896 for a visit.

PROGRAMME

We provide an environment in which facilities, equipment and resources enable staff to encourage children to take advantage of opportunities to enjoy, learn and extend themselves and their potential.

We know that experiences in pre-school have a greater potential to enhance the personal success and happiness of individuals than at any other time of their life, and that in the absence of the primary caregiver, the best care and educational interests of the child will be catered for at the Centre. There are planned activities and opportunities for play, learning and interaction, with competent, caring staff and within a group of children.

WHAT CHILDREN SHOULD BRING

Parents should provide the following:

 ·         Named drink bottle and named lunch box.

 ·         Change of clothes: Nappies and extra underwear for training children.

 ·         Morning session: Morning tea, drink and lunch.

 ·         Afternoon session: Afternoon tea and drink.

 ·         Full day: Morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch and drinks.

 ·         A named sunhat in the summer.

 ·         Warm clothes in the winter.
